Patron Saint of the CCFNEI:
St. Katharine Drexel

A few years ago Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades named St. Katharine Drexel the Patron Saint of our Catholic Community Foundation. St. Katharine Drexel is a true example of Stewardship. The 2nd American-born canonized saint, was born in great wealth in Philadelphia in 1858. Soon after her birth, her mother passed away and she was then raised by her father and step-mother who were firm believers in philanthropy, especially tending to the needs of the poor. Leading by example, as a young woman, St. Katharine Drexel became aware of the difficult circumstances that were facing Native Americans and African Americans of that time. She used her inherited fortune to serve these groups. She funded many institutions, including schools. St. Katharine Drexel died in 1955, and was beatified by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1988 and canonized in 2000. Her feast day is March 3rd. St. Katharine Drexel, pray for us!
